During the warmer months, the population grows significantly as thousands of visitors arrive to experience the Peninsula’s world-famous attractions, pristine beaches, coastal walks and outdoor adventures.

Few places in Australia possess a story as compelling as the Tasman Peninsula. Long before European settlement, the area was home to the Palawa people, who maintained deep cultural connections to this extraordinary landscape for thousands of years.
The Peninsula later became internationally recognised through the establishment of the Port Arthur convict settlement, one of Australia’s most significant heritage sites and now part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Australian Convict Sites. Beyond Port Arthur, the stories of Saltwater River, the Coal Mines Historic Site and the communities that grew from the convict era continue to shape the character and identity of the region today.
