Rates Information

Rates and charges are Council’s primary source of revenue that is used to provide a range of services, projects and infrastructure to the Tasman Community.

Changes to Your Details

Any changes in your personal information (such as postal/residential addresses) should be forwarded to the Tasman Council as soon as possible to ensure all records are kept up to date.

Please note that in the case of name change (ie marriage), Council wishes to advise these changes must be made via the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, who will later notify Council. This ensures all Titles Records and Information remain current and accurate across all relevant Departments.

Direct Debit is available for all Rate Instalments

Direct Debit can be a more convenient and quicker way to pay your Rates. Using Direct Debit, Tasman can electronically transfer funds from your bank account to pay your Rates.

Government Concessions

If you receive a Pension Concession or a Health Care Card (not a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card) you may be eligible for a concession of your rates.

For existing concession card holders, verified by Centrelink or Veterans’ Affairs, these remissions will be automatically shown as a reduction on your rates notice when they are issued.

If your remission is not automatically shown as a reduction on your rates notice, please contact the Tasman Council Rates Officer on (03) 6250 9200.

All eligible Concession Card holders must present their current (in-date) Pension Concession Card or Health Care Card when applying for a concession rates on their rates.

New card holders (if start date on the card is on or before 1st July) should complete a remission form before 31st March each financial year. For further information, including conditions of eligibility for a Pension Concession, please contact the Rates Officer on (03) 6250 9200.

Rates Resolution 2015-2016

That in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993 and the Fire Services Act 1979 the Council makes the following Rates and Charges for rateable land within the Council’s municipal area for the financial year commencing 1 July 2015 and ending 30 June 2016.

1. Definitions and Interpretation

(1) ‘Act’ means the Local Government Act 1993;
(2) ‘land’ means land as defined in Section 86 of the Act; and
(3) ‘rateable land’ is the land referred to in Section 87(1) of the Act.

2. General Rate

Pursuant to Section 90 and 91 of the Act, Council hereby make the following General Rate for all rateable land within the municipal area for the financial year commencing 1 July 2015 and ending 30 June 2016:

(a) Pursuant to Section 90(3)(c) of the Act, a General Rate of 7.671611 cents in the dollar of the Assessed Annual Value of the rateable land;
(b) Pursuant to Section 91 of the Act, a Fixed Charge in respect of the General Rate of $293.10 on all rateable land.

3. Fire Protection Service Rate

Pursuant to Section 93A of the Act and the Fire Service Act 1979 the following fire service rates apply for the financial year commencing 1 July 2015 and ending 30 June 2016:

(a) A fire protection service rate of 0.315318 cents in the dollar of Assessed Annual Value in respect of all rateable land within the volunteer brigade district (Nubeena) with a minimum amount payable of $38.00 in respect of that rate.
(b) A fire protection service rate of 0.315995 cents in the dollar of Assessed Annual Value in respect of all rateable land outside the volunteer brigade district (General Land) with a minimum amount payable of $38.00 in respect of that rate.

4. Waste Management Service Charges

Pursuant to Section 94(1) of the Act, Council hereby makes the following service charges for rateable land (but including land owned by the Crown to which the relevant service is supplied pursuant to Section 93(4) of the Act) regarding waste management services supplied by Council:

(a) General Municipal Waste Management Charge: $63.30
(b) Kerbside Refuse Collection Service Charge: $180.00

5. Payment Options 5.1 Due Dates (Section 124 of the Act) All rates and charges made by the preceding clauses are payable either in instalments (as provided in part 5.2 of this resolution) or in a lump sum by 31 August 2015.

5.2 Rates and charges that are paid by instalments must be paid by four (4) instalments on or before the following dates:

1. 1st Instalment – 31 August 2015; 2. 2nd Instalment – 30 October 2015; 3. 3rd Instalment – 29 January 2016; and 4. 4th Instalment – 31 March 2016.

5.3 Defaults and Penalties on Instalment Payments (Sections 124(5) and 128 of the Act)

If a ratepayer fails to pay any rates or instalments of rates and charges within twenty one (21) days of the date on which the rate or instalment was due to be paid, the ratepayer must immediately pay to Council the full amount of all unpaid rates and charges the financial year commencing 1 July 2015 and ending 30 June 2016. If any rate or instalment of rates and charges are not paid on or before the date they fall due, then interest at the prescribed percentage determined under Section 128(2) of the Act will be payable in respect of the unpaid rate or instalment or charge for the period during which it is unpaid.
