Youth Program
The Loop
The Loop is about providing transport options for young people on weekends. A Committee of young people, parents and MPS staff have organised how the program will work. It is a transport Service for young people being coordinated through the MPS which runs locally (around "the Loop") and also to Hobart on weekends. Trips to Hobart can be for individual interest (shopping etc) or group activities (ice-skating, movies etc.). The trips will use the MPS mini-bus, be driven by Volunteers, user pays and user demand via a booking system.
Re#
Re# is a group of young people who make decisions and plan events for young people in the Tasman Municipality. They work with the MPS Youth Worker to make sure there are things happening in our area. Re# also gives out information about young people's needs. Re# members are secondary students from grade 8, 9 and 10. There are some boys and some girls. Everyone has a different idea about what young people want. We work together to organise things most of us want.
Friday Night Open House Program
Young people between the ages of 13 and 16 are invited to attend as well as people who are aged 17 - 18 year olds who attend as mentors. The young people generally use this time to talk and relax after school. We usually cook a meal, play games and sometimes go for a walk. Young people come up with their own ideas about this program some weeks there will be a party, some weeks we will watch films. Young people can sign in and out whenever they want to and venture to the shop or the beach. A bus or car takes young people home at the end of the night, which is driven by volunteers each week. If it is dark, we ask young people to stay at the youth house. Two youth workers provide supervision. We encourage family members to come in and have a look around.
Holiday Program
Various activities are conducted over the school holiday periods. These activities are decided by the young people and supported by volunteers.
Youth Week
Each year the Youth Program runs various activities during Youth Week. Watch the notice boards around the Tasman Peninsula for further details.
