Pearl's Court - Community Housing
The Tasman MPS operates a complex of units adjacent to the MPS. The units are located within easy walking distance of shops, medical services, pharmacy, church, post officer, library and the MPS. The one-bedroom units are designed to meet the needs of the aged or young disabled people who are still able to care for themselves.
Community Transport
Tasman MPS offers a community transport service, on week days both local and to Hobart on request and subject to the availability of volunteer drivers.
Community Care Services
These are services provided to support aged and young disabled people in their own home environment. Referral to the service are assessed by the Community Health Nurses. These services include:
Home Care
Home Care provides assistance with housework such as cleaning, laundry, shopping and in some cases cooking.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a weekly service which supplies up to a weekly supply of frozen main meals that are home delivered.
Personal Care
Personal Care is a service which provides assistance in activities such as bathing, dressing, eating or other personal tasks.
Home Maintenance
Home Maintenance is a service that helps you maintain your home and garden for security and safety. Minor modifications such as fitting hand rails may be carried out.
Community Activity Program
Social activities are organised for older community members with transport provided. A bus trip runs every Tuesday for social outings, locally one week and to Hobart on the other week.
Volunteer Program
We train and support volunteers to support our community in a range of activities, such as transport, gardening, entertainment. Registered volunteers are covered by the Council's insurance policy. We respect and value volunteers for the help they provide.
Social Work Program
This programs offers short term counseling in areas such as coping with changes, stress management, grief and loss and strengthening families. Group work is also conducted which includes parenting, relaxation and well-being, self-esteem and assertiveness, stress management and health issues. The social worker also works with the community to change things that impact on the community's well-being. Our social worker will travel to all areas of the municipality and will make home visits if needed.
Equipment Scheme
The Tasman MPS provides for a fee a selection of medical aids for loan. These items include crutches, nebulisers, etc.
Emergency Financial Relief
In times of financial crisis confidential support is available through the MPS. Assistance can be in the from of food or petrol vouchers, help to buy water or firewood, or help with overdue essential service bills.
