Your Council
Tasman Council is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. It was proclaimed in 1907 with the first meeting held on 6 January 1908. It comprises nine Councillors elected for a term of four years. The municipal area comprises the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas - an area of 659.3 sq klms with a population of 2222.
Elections are conducted in October of each second year at which time half of the elected Councillors retire. The community elects the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for a two-year term.
Decisions are made at Council meetings normally held every third Monday (except holidays) at 10:00am. These meetings are open to the public and time is set aside each meeting to allow for questions from the public.
Copies of the Agenda for Council Meetings can be inspected at the Council Chambers four days prior to the meeting and are available at the meeting, as well as from the Council website.
